It's baseball betting time and tonight the Los Angeles Angels take on the Los Angeles Dodgers at Chavez Ravine in what L.A. fans consider a legitimate rivalry. Even though the teams play in different leagues, if you live in L.A. you hate one and love the other. Unless, of course, you are a MLB betting fan.
The Angels will start pitcher Jered Weaver in this game. Weaver has been pretty good this season when racking up a 2.59 ERA and a 3 and 2 record. His WHIP is fantastic at .95.
The Dodgers, ranked in the MLB Power Rankings (link to Power Rankings article), counter Weaver with pitcher Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw’s ERA has steadily increased since April but he is fantastic when it comes to strike-outs. He could approach 200 this season. His overall ERA is awful at 4.60 and his record is 2 and 3 but his WHIP isn’t all that bad at 1.24.
Here is the betting line for this game (from BetUS online sportsbook).
Los Angeles Angels
Jered Weaver – R +1 ½ -190 +105 O 8 +105
Los Angeles Dodgers
Clayton Kershaw – L -1 ½ +160 -125 U 8 -125
Here are a few online betting trends for this game.
The Under is 8 and 2 in the Los Angeles Angels last 10 games versus a team with a winning record.
The Los Angeles Angels are 5 and 0 in their last 5 games versus a left handed starter.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are 41 and 10 in their last 51 games as a favorite at home.
The Under is 7 and 0 in the Los Angeles Dodgers last 7 interleague games.
This is an extremely tough game to handicap. If Kershaw is on, then there’s no doubt that the Dodgers have a huge shot at winning this game.
But the Dodgers face a pitcher in Jered Weaver that just doesn’t allow base runners. When you don’t allow base runners, you’re tough to beat. Weaver should, probably, be the favorite on the run line, but since that isn’t the case, gamblers will have to look elsewhere for a good bet.
Where? To the under in this game. Weaver has a good chance of keeping the Dodgers to around 2 to 3 runs. Kershaw shouldn’t allow more than 5 and that would mean he’s having a terrible game.
The trends say under, the WHIP’s say under, and both pitchers should be ready to pitch a terrific game. I’m going to bet under 8 at -125.
